Diamond cutting
In 2024, PowderTech invested in a state of the art Diamond Cutting Lathe! Since its arrival, it has had over 1000 wheels through it, every time producing the most perfect, shining finish!
what is diamond cutting?
Diamond cutting is when an alloy wheel is put on our lathe and part of, or the entire face, of the wheel is machined off to leave a shiny finish. The lathe can probe a wheel with incredible accuracy and cut with perfect precision, cutting off as little as 0.01mm at a time. Before any cutting, a base powder coat is applied. And after cutting, it is then lacquered over to protect the flawless finish.
Many vehicle manufacturer’s use diamond cut finishes on their wheels because it gives a more high-end look. Rolls-Royce were one of the first manufacturers to use this finish!

All wheels booked in at PowderTech go through the same process at the start. Any tyres are removed and to remove any old paint/powder, the wheel is put into our acid baths followed by the vapour blaster. Next, it goes to our prep bench where we get your wheel perfectly ready for powder coating. Once ready, they get powder coated in our coating room. Then the wheels get put into our industrial oven to bake the powder onto them. This gives a much smoother finish and is much more durable than paint. For a diamond cut finish, once the wheels are cooled from the oven they will be put into our diamond cutting lathe. After they are cut, a coat of lacquer is applied. Then the wheels are built back up with your tyres, rebalanced and then assembled back onto your vehicle.
What colour base powder do you choose?
For diamond cut wheels we have access to all vehicle manufacturers base colours. This way we can refurb your wheels in the exact same colours they left the factory. But, we can tailor any refurbs or colours to suit your desired look!
